REFLECTION
The rapid expansion of technology is noticeable today, including AI, as it is reshaping education. As English teachers, we can leverage AI to create more engaging and effective learning experiences for our students. Module 2 enriched us with many AI tools for the different situations that we might need in our classroom. AI-powered tools can help students improve their pronunciation. Speech recognition systems transcribe spoken language, check pronunciation, and provide feedback.
In module 2 we learned about educational tools that can encourage students to use these tools for self-assessment and practice such as Chatbots and conversational practice. AI chatbots simulate real conversations, allowing students to practice speaking and writing. The integration of chatbots in language exercises or role-playing activities to improve fluency is one of the highlights.
AI in grammar and writing assistance like Grammarly in which AI grammar checkers analyze the written text, identify errors, and suggest corrections, which is extremely helpful to both teachers and students in the writing process to improve accuracy.
Vocabulary Expansion is of such importance in the process of learning new languages, in which AI-based word games and vocabulary apps help students learn new words. In the future, assigning vocabulary development tasks using these tools can be of great help in your development.
Designing activities where students respond to scenarios generated by AI would be an excellent idea, encouraging creativity and the use of language. Artificial intelligence tools transfer some responsibilities from teachers to students. Teachers become facilitators and guide students in the effective use of AI.
Regarding the use of AI, certain challenges can be witnessed. Teachers must adapt to this new role and trust that students take ownership of their learning. Traditional language teaching may need adjustments to accommodate these authentic experiences.
Future applications
1. Blended learning:
Combine artificial intelligence tools with traditional teaching methods for a balanced approach. Using AI for personalized practice while maintaining face-to-face interactions.
2. Adaptive learning:
AI adapts content based on individual needs and progress. Therefore you can create personalized learning paths for each student, using insights to adapt instruction and address specific learning gaps.
Conclusion
As AI continues to evolve, integrating it into ELT can improve students' language skills and encourage independence. By embracing AI, we empower learners to navigate the digital age with confidence and competence.
In short, AI is not a science fiction concept; It is a practical tool that can revolutionize language teaching. Let's accept it and shape the future of ELT.
